i see the divine in you.

the next issue of whet will be released in july 2025 and is…

the health issue.

dissecting the topic of “health”—and all that such a broad term encompasses for different sectors and life situations—means addressing everything from the for-profit medical industry to our spiritual sustenance and obstacles to mental health. it means speaking candidly about the barriers to our healthiest selves and physical longevity faced by so many and what that means in the scope of our individual cultures and larger society. in the health issue., whet will be asking BIWOC artists to develop the dialogue with authenticity and respect, aiming to expand on everything from environmental racism and chronic illness to the application of the term “disabled” and the wide spectrum of access to affordable, meaningful, preventative healthcare. what does it mean to assert our own natural right to healthful living in a world where access to reliable healthcare provided with dignity and compassion can be dependent on variables we have so little control over—such as our zip code, the color of our skin, our gender, our socioeconomic background, or the footsteps framed by our foremothers?

deadline for submissions:

please understand that whet is a sacred space for women of color. whet features artwork by those that are typically denied a voice in the art landscape and beyond—our black, brown, indigenous, women of color sisters.

artists of all mediums, genres, scopes and skills are always most welcome! whet is not limited in art form and doesn’t discourage any type of artist from submitting.

DA DEETS: please fill out the form to the right, and be sure to upload your artwork by clicking the “UPLOAD” button on the final field of the submission form. submissions are typically responded to within 3 to 5 business days. submissions without accompanying submission forms completed will not be accepted.

DA NOTES: for visual arts or illustration submissions, please make sure that your resolution is at least 300 DPI. for literary arts or creative writing submissions, you may want to have more than one piece in mind in the event that your steez is spot on but whet can only allocate a certain amount of space to your section.

EXTRA-SUPER-DUPER-MUY-IMPORTANTE-MAYJAH-READ-THIS NOTE:

communication is important! whet values your time and just asks that those submitting are mutually respectful. to that end:

  • it is vital that you maintain contact with whet throughout the submission process and especially once the zine is being formatted and edited. if whet reaches out to you regarding a question about your submission or formatting or preferences, please respond within three (3) business days; if you are unresponsive after three (3) attempts to reach you within a period of two weeks, your submission will be automatically removed.

finally, be aware that whet cannot offer paid commissions at this time. whet is a totally volunteer-run, one-woman powerhouse for the time being but you will absolutely receive a copy of the issue with your contribution and an invite to the release event for those of you who are local!
